Hot Mix Asphalt

Hot Mix Asphalt

Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) is a combination of aggregates, hydrated lime or liquid anti-strip additives (LASA), and a bituminous binder usually referenced as asphaltic cement (AC). The primary aggregates consist of crushed stone and sand (natural or manufactured stone), mixed in a predetermined proportion to obtain the desired properties. Sometimes additives are used; for example, ground tire rubber (GTR) from end-of-life tires or a rejuvenator. Another ingredient increasingly used is reclaimed asphalt from old roads, called RAP (recycled asphalt pavement).
