NC Highway 133
The Reeves Structures Region completed the $15.8M contract to rehabilitate Bridge #14 Highway 133 over the Intracoastal Waterway and 8 miles of hot mix asphalt patching and resurfacing in Brunswick County, North Carolina. One of only two access points means this was a critical corridor to Oak Island, North Carolina, a summer tourist destination, therefore the bridge closure and rehabilitation was completed in the off-season to minimize impacts to the public. Our team worked together to deliver this project ahead of schedule during the off-season closure. The key bridge rehabilitation scope included foundation repairs, cathodic protection systems, full bridge deck replacement of 28 spans (1,120 linear feet), safety improvements replacing and upgrading the bridge barrier to vertical concrete parapet and aluminum railing for pedestrian and vehicle traffic (along the full 4,250 linear feet length of bridge), and installation of polyester concrete deck overlay for the full length of bridge.
