SCDOT Emergency Repairs

Sloan completed three emergency repairs in Greenville, SC for the SCDOT after heavy rain caused catastrophic damages, washing out existing storm drain pipe crossings on February 7, 2020. This created sinkholes in roads throughout Greenville County. The work to repair the roads required working closely with various utility companies, SCDOT and other industry professionals. The work started nearly immediately and was ongoing nearly every day.

The constant rains have been a challenge to working conditions, but our crews were diligent and made great progress. Each site had an active stream running through the work and required ongoing bypass pumping. Sloan began mobilizing equipment and proceeding with site excavations on February 10, 2020, just 3 days after the rain event. The work required removing debris from storm damage, excavating pipe, installing new storm drain pipe ranging in size from 30” to 66”, replacing the eroded fill material and building cast in place headwalls. All three sites are on schedule to be opened to traffic by April 1, 2020.
